Reading Challenges

CHALLENGE YOURSELF!

Reading challenges are a great way to read more broadly and consistently, have fun, learn new things and stay engaged!

Thanks to the generosity of the Friends of the Lincoln Library, we are able to offer challenges year-round through Beanstack, our free online service that offers book and activity logging, recommendations, book reviews, and more!

Participate in one of our monthly challenges or join an ongoing challenge and keep reading all year! Earn badges and be entered to win a prize at the end of your challenge. Monthly challenges are open to all readers over 18.

Ready to get started? Go to lincolnpl.beanstack.org or download the mobile app, register for your account, join a challenge, and start reading!

 

 

 

To create an account and join a challenge on the web:

  1. Click the above link to go to lincolnpl.beanstack.org
  2. Click on "Register an Individual or Family
  3. If you haven't signed up for an account before, click "No"
  4. Choose "I'm registering myself" or "I'm an adult registering a child" if you'd like to register a family member" (additional readers can be added to an account at any time)
  5. Fill out your information on the form
  6. If you'd like to receive book recommendations via email, click the check box next to "Yes, send me recommendations by email."
  7. Click "Next" to create your account. 
  8. You will then see all available challenges at the bottom of the page. Click on a challenge to join it. 
  9. To log reading and activities for your challenge, click the blue "Log reading and activities" button at the top left.
  10. To write a review of a book you have read (reviews will be featured on the Beanstack page!) click "Add a review in the top left corner. 
  11. To add friends, click on the "Friends" tab.
  12. To see a list of suggested books, look under the "Recommended" tab.

To create an account and join a challenge on the app:

Download the free Beanstack Tracker app to your device (click on the "download the mobile app" page above

  1. Download the free Beanstack Tracker app to your device. It is available for free in the Play and App stores (click on the "download the mobile app" page above.
  2. Click on the purple button marked “Find Your School or Library”
  3. Search for the Lincoln Public Library. Tap the library name to get to the login screen.
  4. Click on “Don’t Have an Account? Sign Up!” at the bottom of the page to get to the registration screen.
  5. Sign up for an account on the Beanstack app by creating a username and password and filling out the required information
  6. After the account has been created, choose to either “Fill Out My Reader Profile” (this must be completed if the account holder wants to participate in a reading challenge) or “Add A Reader” (for a family account where the account creator is not participating in a reading challenge).
  7. Register for your challenge!

How to log reading (Beanstack Tracker app):

  1. ​Once in the Beanstack Tracker app, logging can be done on any page with the plus icon at the bottom of the screen. Logging can be done for one or multiple readers.
  2. Tap on the plus icon. Then select readers by tapping on the reader's name.
  3. Tap “Next” to pull up the logging method options. Follow the prompts to log reading.

You can log reading by entering the book's title or by scanning the title's ISBN (requires access to device camera).

New Challenges!

The Lincoln Library Native American Heritage Month Challenge

 

 

November is National Native American Heritage Month! Celebrate the rich cultural traditions, histories, and contributions of Indigenous peoples in North America. Complete activities and read books written by Indigenous authors and related to the history and heritage of Indigenous peoples. Choose a book from our list of suggestions or pick your own! Need more suggestions? Ask a librarian! Earn badges for reading, completing activities, and attending events. To complete the challenge and be entered in the prize drawing at the end of the challenge, earn any three badges. The more badges you earn, the more likely it is that the winner will be you!

The Lincoln Library Read Local Challenge

 Learn more about our community by reading books from our Read Local reading list about the history of Lincoln and Massachusetts, as well as fiction and nonfiction by local authors!

To complete the challenge, read all of the books on the list.

Anyone who earns at least one badge in addition to the registration badge will be entered to win a prize at the end of the challenge!

The Lincoln Library Banned Books Week Mini-Challenge

Reading is empowering! Learn about new perspectives and celebrate the freedom to read with books that have been challenged or banned throughout the years. From September 19- September 24, participate in Banned Books Week by choosing a book to read from our list of banned and challenged titles. To complete the challenge, read your book for one hour this week. Keep reading and discovering long after the challenge ends!

The Lincoln Library Hispanic Heritage Month Challenge

 National Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated each year from Sep. 15 to Oct. 15. This year, the theme is “Unidos: Inclusivity for a Stronger Nation.” Honor diverse voices, unique perspectives, and rich cultural traditions by completing activities and reading books related to Hispanic history, heritage, and culture. Anyone who earns at least one badge (not counting the registration badge) will be entered in our prize drawing at the end of the challenge. The more you read, the more likely the winner will be you!

The Lincoln Library Summer Staff Picks Challenge

 Let our staff guide you through a great summer of reading! From June 15 - August 31, earn virtual badges for reading books from our curated list of titles recommended by Lincoln Public Library staff members. Anyone who reads at least one book from the list will be entered in our prize drawing at the end of the challenge and TWO lucky participants will win a prize!

Lincoln Library Virtual Adult Summer Reading

Don't let the kids have all the summer reading fun! Earn virtual badges for completing a variety of summer reading activities. Anyone who earns six out of the eight badges (not including the registration badges) by August 31 will receive a small prize and an invitation to a wine and cheese wrap-up party! (Sept party date TBD)

The Lincoln Library Pride Month Challenge

Celebrate Pride Month by reading books that reflect and celebrate the lives, history, and experiences of the LGBTQ+ community and completing related activities. Choose from our list of selected titles or pick your own! Log your reading and complete activities to earn virtual badges all June long! To complete the challenge, earn any three badges (registration badge not included).

Anyone who earns at least one badge in addition to the registration badge will be entered to win a prize at the end of the challenge!

The Lincoln Library Asian American and Pacific Islander Challenge

Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month is celebrated each year from May 1–31. Celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander voices, history, and heritage through reading books and completing activities. Choose books from our suggested list of titles related to Asian American and Pacific Islander heritage or pick your own! Log your reading and activities here to earn badges all month long. To complete the challenge, earn any three badges (registration badge not included).

Anyone who earns at least one badge in addition to the registration badge will be entered to win a prize at the end of the challenge!

The Poetry Month Challenge

 

Celebrate National Poetry Month by completing poetry-related activities and reading poetry, books about poetry, and books about poets! Choose from our list of suggestions or select your own!

To complete the challenge, earn three virtual badges. Badges are given for activity completion, time spent reading, and writing reviews.

Anyone who earns at least one badge in addition to the registration badge will be entered to win a prize at the end of the challenge!

Challenge runs April 1 - 30.

 

The Women Changemakers Challenge 

Celebrate Women’s History Month by reading stories of inspirational creators, brave leaders, and bold changemakers. Choose from the great titles on our Women's History Month reading list and log your reading to earn badges all month long! 

To complete the challenge, read at least five books from the list.

Anyone who earns at least one badge will be entered to win a prize at the end of the challenge!

The Lincoln Library Black History Month Challenge

 Read books about Black history and complete activities to learn more about Black health and wellness!

Challenge runs February 1 - February 28

Earn badges for reading, activities, and writing reviews!

To complete the challenge, read for at least nine hours and do all three of the activities. 

One lucky reader will win a prize at the end of the month. The more badges you earn, the greater the likelihood it will be you!
