The Library has commissioned multiple studies to explore options for addressing its 35‑year‑old heating and cooling systems. In keeping with the Town’s goal to decarbonize our infrastructure, the studies examined three approaches:

• Replacing the current gas boilers and air‑conditioning units with new, conventional versions.
• Installing an air‑source heat pump system.
• Installing a ground‑source heat pump system.

Based on life‑cycle cost analysis funded by a Green Energy Committee grant, the Library Board of Trustees determined that, of the two carbon‑free options, a ground‑source system is the most cost‑effective over time. Members of several Town boards joined the Select Board at its January 12th meeting to review and discuss the findings.

Together, we have agreed to move forward with further cost estimating and development of a funding strategy to prepare a ground‑source proposal for Annual Town Meeting. Opportunities for residents to learn more will be available in the coming weeks.
