Boston Bogleheads – Estimated Taxes and Tax Models.

Rick Moberg will be giving a talk on Estimated Taxes and Tax Models. He will discuss these aspects of estimated taxes:

The safe harbor rules for avoiding penalties on the underpayment of estimated taxes
The pros and cons of the various methods of paying estimated taxes
The mechanics of making estimated tax payments

He will also discuss tax models. You may be interested in this part of the presentation even if you’re an old hand at estimated taxes. Tax models are useful in that you can use them to:

Calculate how much tax to withhold from your sources of income or how much quarterly estimated tax to pay
Play “what-if” to calculate the tax cost of financial decisions you may be considering
Forecast and possibly manage your Medicare premiums

Rick will discuss the various tax model options available to you and walk you through a simple spreadsheet model he has developed.
