Historical/Biographical Notes

The Smith Family were among the earliest residents of Lincoln, and members were active in local affairs. Charles Sumner Smith, 1857-1927, was elected a member of the Massachusetts Senate, was one of the Lincoln Selectmen for many years and was instrumental in the development of Sandy Pond as the Lincoln water supply.  Sumner Smith, Charles’ son, was also a member of the Board of Selectmen for many years.  Charles Sumner Smith married Mary Isabel Smythe, who was descended from the Wesson (Weston) family.  The Smith family home was on Sandy Pond Road in Lincoln.  The manuscript was compiled from tapes made by Sumner Smith in 1971                                                                                   

Scope and Content

An account of Smith family history and biography through three generations comprising recollections and reminiscences taped by Sumner Smith in 1971, and compiled by Martha J. E. Smith.
